Human Rights Day is the day on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Today is a reminder that we can take action in our own daily lives, to uphold the rights that protect us all and thereby promote the kinship of all human beings.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is made up of 30 articles, comprising what the UN calls “inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being.” It has been updated many times and translated into more than 350 languages globally.
Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more. Everyone is entitled to these rights, without discrimination.
